Repairing Conceptual Mismatches in Dialogue: a Computational Approach
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this paper, a computational framework is presented for the generation of elementary speech acts to establish conceptual alignment between a computer system and its user. We clearly distinguish between two phases of the alignment process: message interpretation and message generation. In the interpretation phase, presuppositions are extracted from the user’s message and compared with the system’s semantic model of the application domain, which is represented in Type Theory. Subsequently, in the generation phase, an adequate feedback message is produced in order to resolve detected discrepancies. A conversational strategy is provided that is based upon Gricean maxims and a differentiation of various types of information states of the system, such as private and common beliefs about the domain of discourse, and the goal of the user.

Educational Human-computer Debate: a Computational Dialectics Approach
Theories of learning suggest that dialogue is important in shaping conceptual development. However, there is widespread debate as to the forms of dialogue and which are effective in an educational context. In addressing these issues, we have analysed current knowledge concerning dialectics in philosophy and education. We propose to adopt a computational dialectical approach to study the issues ...
متن کاملTowards Computational Dialogue Types for BIM Collaborative Design: An Initial Study
Collaborative design is an iterative process of selecting and evaluating solutions under potentially conflicting requirements, a concept central to Building Information Modelling (BIM) implementation. Previous research has shown that design can be better understood via computational argumentation-based dialogue. We suggest that in BIM context different types of dialogue should be considered and...
متن کاملThe Role of Semantics in Spoken Dialogue Translation Systems
In this paper, we consider the role of semantics in the spoken dialogue translation systems. We begin by looking at some of the key properties of an existing spoken dialogue system, namely the sundial system which provides ight and train information over the telephone, and how these properties aaect the design methodology and functionality of spoken translation systems. These properties include...
متن کاملFiltering Errors and Repairing Linguistic Anomalies for Spoken Dialogue Systems
Our work addresses the integration of speech recognition and language processing for whole spoken dialogue systems. To filter ill-recognized words, we design an on-line computing of word confidence scores based on the recognizer output hypothesis. To infer as much information as possible from the retained sequence of words, we propose a bottom-up syntacticosemantic robust parsing relying on a l...
متن کاملQualitative Semantic Representations
This paper reports on our work in the Transregional Collaborative Research Center Spatial Cognition (SFB/TR8). The aim of this research is to achieve a natural and effective dialogic interaction between a human and an intelligent robot on spatial navigation tasks. Therefore, we have introduced a conceptual level representation of human spatial knowledge on top of the robot’s quantitative repres...
